Traffic flow and road conditions

Due to strong wind on the part of the DC8 Adriatic road Bakar-Senj, on the DC99 state road between the Križišće junction and Križišće as well as on the LC58107 Kraljevica (DC8)-Križišće (A7) local road there is a traffic ban on: doubledeckers, trailers and motorcycles, from Karlobag to Sveta Marija Magdalena on the DC8 on the delivery vans and vehicles with covered cargo area too.

Roads are partly wet and slippery. Attention to possible flood!

Traffic is dense in cities and on their bypass roads as well as on some motorway sections.

During the day difficulties can occur in roadwork areas - in Istria on the A8 highway between the Učka junction and Učka tunnel, on the DC1 Solin-Klis highway, on several sections of the DC8 Adriatic road, especially in the area of Split.

Drivers are invited to adjust the speed and the way of driving to the road conditions and to keep distance!

Traffic restrictions:

A1 Zagreb-Ploče-Karamatići motorway:

until 12 June traffic is suspended between the Bisko and Split junctions in direction Zagreb, detour: Bisko junction (A1 exit)-DC220-ŽC6260-ŽC6145-DC1-Dugopolje/Split; possible A1 entrance at the Dugopolje paytoll in direction Zagreb, impossible A1 entrance at the Bisko junction in direction Zagreb; traffic jams should be expected at the Bisko and Split paytolls;
until 12 June at the Babića bridge (Babića most) at 131st km between the Žuta Lokva and Otočac junctions one lane is free only in each direction;
20 April-20 May 11pm-5am traffic is occasionally suspended for 15 minutes at the Bisko junction;
20-30 April 10pm-5am traffic is suspended for 15 minutes at the Bosiljevo and Lučko junctions due to abnormal load;

A2 Zagreb-Macelj motorway:

until 15 June roadwork is in progress at the Zaprešić paytoll (less entrance/exit lanes will be open);

A3 Bregana-Lipovac motorway:

until 13 May between the Popovača and Kutina junctions 93rd-90th km in direction Zagreb traffic is flowing in reduced lanes;
until 1 June at the Zagreb (Plitvice) rest area 16th-17th km traffic is proceeding in reduced lanes in both directions (60 km/h);
until 30 June at the Zagreb zapad junction from direction Lipovac (A3) towards Zagreb, from direction Bregana (A3) and Macelj (A2) towards Zagreb (Sava bridge-Jankomir) traffic is flowing in one lane only;
20-30 April 10pm-5am traffic is suspended for 15 minutes at the Lučko and Zagreb istok junctions;
until 30 May 1am-5am at the Zagreb zapad junction traffic is suspended for 15 minutes from direction Lipovac towards the A2 motorway;
until 6 May midnight-4am traffic is suspended for 15 minutes at the Okučani junction;
until 8 May 00.01am-5am traffic is suspended for 15 minutes at the Bregana paytoll in both directions as well as at the Goričan paytoll in both directions due to abnormal load;

A4 Zagreb-Goričan motorway:

until 15 May at the Zagreb istok junction one lane is free only in both directions (traffic jams should be expected);
20-30 April 10pm-5am traffic is occasionally suspended at the Sesvete junction;
until 20 May 00.01am-4am at the Zagreb istok junction traffic is occasionally closed for 15 minutes due to abnormal load;

A6 Rijeka-Zagreb motorway:

until 25 May on the section Čavle-Kikovica 75th-72nd km one lane is free only in each direction;
until 28 May between the Orehovica and Čavle junctions 80th-78th km traffic is flowing in one lane only in both directions;
until 7 May 11pm-4am traffic is occasionally suspended between the Orehovica and Čavle junctions in both directions, Čavle and Kikovica junctions in both directions, Vrbovsko and Bosiljevo 2 junctions in both directions;
until 8 May 11pm-4am traffic is occasionally suspended for 15 minutes between the Čavle and Kikovica juncitons in both directions;
12 May 11am-2pm traffic is closed at the Cernik rest area towards Zagreb due to firefighter roadwork;
20-30 April 10pm-5am traffic is suspended for 15 minutes at the Oštrovica and Ravna Gora junctions;
until 12 June between the Bosiljevo 2 and Vrbovsko junctions at the Zečeve Drage viaduct one lane is free only in each direction;

A7 Rupa-Rijeka-Žuta Lokva motorway:

until 30 April 10pm-5am traffic is suspended for 15 minutes at the Rijeka istok and Hreljin junctions;
27 April 9am-noon traffic is suspended shortly between the Jurdani and Trinajstići junctions at 13th km in both directions;
28 April 9am-noon traffic is suspended shortly at Jurdani towards Rupa and Križišće, from direction Rupa and Križišće towards Jurdani;

A8/A9 highway in Istria

traffic jams are possible between the Učka junction (A7) and Učka tunnel in both directions;
between the Kanfanar and Medaki junctions at the Limska Draga viaduct there is a traffic ban on abnormal load larger than 3,3 m in both directions;
29 April 7pm-7am as well as 4 May at 7pm-5 May at 7pm traffic is suspended in the entrance lane of the Matulji junction from direction Istria/Pula towards Zagreb, in the exit lane of the Matulji junction from direction Zagreb towards Istria/Pula as well as between the Veprinac and Matulji junctions in both directions, detour for passenger vehicles from direction Rijeka towards Pula/Umag: Matulji junction-Opatija-DC8-ŽC5047-ŽC5048-Veprinac junction (A8);

DC1 Solin-Klis highway:

due to roadwork between the Mravince and Klis Grlo tunnels traffic is proceeding in one lane only in each direction until 1 May;

DC8 Adriatic road:

DC44 Livade-Istarske Toplice state road:

until 20 June traffic is suspended on the section Livade-Istarske Toplice;

DC75 Novigrad-Poreč state road:

until 20 June traffic is closed on the section Tar-Bašarinka;

DC404 state road in Rijeka:

29 April 10.30pm-5am traffic is suspended between the Vežica junction and the DC8/DC404 state road intersection (Delta parking place/Ivana Zajca street) in both directions due to roadwork at the Bobova and Pećine tunnels;

DC512 state road:

due to rock sliding traffic is suspended at the Stupica tunnel towards Vrgorac.

Border crossings

At the border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro a new system of entering/exiting the country (so called Entry/Exit System - EES) is applied. It means that apart from having travel documents biometric passenger data will be collected (four fingerprints and face photo). The law does not refer to EU citizens.

Notifications about waiting time at border crossings are subject to frequent changes. Access to cameras at border crossings is provided on the Croatian Automobile Club website.

Until 31 December 2026 at the Erdut-Bogojevo border crossing there is a traffic ban on freight vehicles exceeding 7,5 tonnes.

The Gunja-Brčko border crossing is closed for all traffic, detour: Županja-Orašje border crossing.

At the Ilok-Bačka Palanka bridge traffic is allowed for vehicles up to 24 tonnes (driving speed limit of 30 km/h).

Starting 3 Junly 2023 international traffic is possible at the Slivno-Drinovačko Brdo border crossing.

Transit freight traffic is suspended at the Tovarnik/Šid border crossing, detour: Bajakovo border crossing.

Traffic is suspended for vehicles whose maximum weight exceeds 7,5 tonnes at the Pribanjci-Vinica border crossing on the DC204 state road.

The Dvor and Vitaljina border crossings are open for pedestrians and passenger traffic only.

The border crossings for the international maritime traffic are: Umag, Pula, Mali Lošinj, Vis, Ubli and Cavtat (Book of Regulations on border crossings of the Republic of Croatia, pubblished at the Narodne novine, 2 January

30 April Zadar-Rivanj-Sestrunj-Zverinac-Božava-Brbinj catamaran departs at 4.30pm (instead at 2.15pm), Stari Grad-Split catamaran at 2pm (instead at 1pm).

Railway traffic, 29 April 2026

Due to roadwork delays should be expected on the following sections as passengers are transported by buses:

- between the Križevci and Gyekenyes railway stations on the rail state border-Botovo-Dugo Selo,

- between the Varaždin and Koprivnica railway stations on the rail Varaždin-Koprivnica,

- between the Kloštar and Koprivnica, Osijek and Bizovac railway stations on the rail Koprivnica-Dalj,

- between the Novska and Sisak Caprag railway stations on the rail Zagreb-Sisak-Novska,

- between the Banova Jaruga and Virovitica railway stations,

- between the Duga Resa and Oštarije railway stations on the rail Zagreb-Rijeka,

- between the Solin and Dujmovača railway stations on the rail Oštarije-Knin-Split,

- between the Buzet and Lupoglav railway stations on the rail state border-Buzet-Pula,

- between the Križevci and Sveti Ivan Žabno railway stations.

One lane is free only:

- between the Okučani and Novska railway stations on the rail Novska-Tovarnik-state border 8.30am-12.10pm.

Driving restrictions for heavy goods vehicles

Summer restrictions on freight vehicles

15 June-15 September there are traffic restrictions on freight vehicles heavier than 7,5 tonnes on Saturdays 4am-2pm, on Sundays noon-11pm and on holidays 3pm-11pm on the following roads:

- DC8-DC40 Bakar junction-Zadar-Split-Klek border crossing-Zaton Doli border crossing-Dubrovnik-Karasovići border crossing (except on the part DC27-Šibenik bridge-Šibenik-DC58, Bilice roundabout at Solin-Stobreč);

- DC9-Metković-Opuzen-DC8;

- DC21 Kaštel border crossing-Buje-Kanfanar junction (except on the part DC21 Kanfanar-Pula-DC66);

- DC23 Žuta Lokva-Senj;

- DC39-A1-Šestanovac roundabout-DC8-Dupci;

- DC66 Pula junction (A9)-Raša-Opatija-DC8;

- DC200 Buje (DC21)-Plovanija border crossing;

- DC300 Buje (DC21)-Umag;

- Ž5002 Novigrad-Tar-Poreč-Vrsar (DC21);

Traffic restrictions for transit freight vehicles through Croatia:

For freight vehicle exceeding 7,5 tonnes there is a traffic ban on the DC414 state road from DC8-DC414 intersection to Prapratno junction as well as from Prapratno junction to Komarna junction (Pelješac bridge and its access roads).

According to the Book of regulations for public road transit traffic, freight vehicles heavier than 7,5 tonnes without a trailer/with a trailer longer than 14 m are allowed to use the following roads:

Traffic forecast for 30 April 2026

Roads will be wet and slippery in mountain areas and in Dalmatia. Due to strong wind along the coast, especially on the DC8 Adriatic road, there can be traffic bans on some vehicles.

Traffic will be dense in cities and on their bypass roads as well as on some motorway sections, especially in the morning and afternoon.

Difficulties can occur in roadwork areas - on the A3 Zagreb bypass road, on the A4 Zagreb-Goričan motorway between the Popovec and Zagreb istok junctions, in Istria on the A8 highway between the Učka junction and Učka tunnel, on the DC1 Solin-Klis highway.

At the border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro there can be delays in passenger and freight traffic.
In ferry traffic difficulties are expected due to wind.
