Traffic flow and road conditions

Traffic is dense on major roads, city roads and their bypasses and at some border crossings. Please adjust your way of driving to the road conditions.

The A1 Zagreb-Ploče-Karamatići motorway:
  • traffic is dense between Zagreb and Zadar in both directions
  • towards the coast, there are 2 km long queues at the Lučko pay toll from direction of the Buzin junction, while from direction of the city center the queue is 1 km long
  • towards Zagreb, there are 2 km long queue at the Lučko and Demerje pay tolls
  • traffic is occasionally queueing between the Lučko pay toll and the Bosiljevo 2 junction towards the coast
  • between the Posedarje junction and Sveti Rok tunnel towards Zagreb, traffic is proceeding slowly, with occasional traffic jams
  • due to a traffic accident between the Posedarje and Rovanjska junctions, towards Zagreb, traffic is proceeding with a reduced speed limit

The A2 Zagreb-Macelj motorway:

  • there is a 500 m queue at the Trakošćan pay toll, towards Zagreb

The A3 Bregana-Lipovac motorway:

  • between the Zagreb istok and Lučko junctions towards Bregana, traffic is proceeding slowly, with occasional traffic jams
  • towards the coast, there is a 2 km long queue at the Lučko pay toll from direction of the Buzin junction

A4 Goričan-Zagreb motorway:

  • there is a 1 km long queue between the Sesvete and Zagreb istok junctions, towards Zagreb

A7 Rupa-Rijeka motorway:

  • there is a 1 km long queue at the off-ramp of the Učka junction towards Istria
  • traffic is dense between the Učka and Orehovica junctions in both directions

Motorways in Istria:

  • traffic is proceeding slowly between the Učka tunnel and junction in both directions
  • traffic is dense towards Kaštel and Plovanija

DC8 Adriatic Road:

  • due to strong wind, there is a traffic ban on double decker buses, campervans and motorcycles on the DC8 Adriatic Road between Novi Vinodolski and Sveta Marija Magdalena
  • traffic is on access roads to major tourist destinations
The Krk Bridge:
  • towards the island, the queue is from the Burlica tunnel, while towards the mainland the queue is from Njivice

Due to roadwork, traffic on the following roads has been suspended:

  • The DC5 Grubišno Polje-Veliki Zdenci (until 11 October)
  • The DC29 state road, between Zlatara and Zlatar Bistrice (until 1 October)
  • The DC46 between Đakovo and Vinkovci, in the town of Vođinci (until 18 September).
  • The DC46 Požega - Pleternica state road between Kuzmica and Vesela (until 31 December)
  • The DC51 state road Nova Gradiška-Požega near the town of Rešetari (until 19 September)
  • The DC200 state road in Višnjan (until 20 September)
  • The DC214 state road in Gudnja (roadwork on the bridge); on the Gunja-Brčko border crossing, there is a traffic ban on freight vehicles and busses (detour: Županja border crossing)
  • The DC512 state road Makarska-Ravča near the Stupica tunnel, direction Vrgorac (due to rocksliding)
  • The DC546 Stojdraga-Krašić near the town of Petričko Selo (until 15 March 2026).
Traffic restrictions:
A1 Zagreb-Ploče-Karamatići motorway:
A2 Zagreb-Macelj motorway:
  • due to roadwork, the lay-by lane between the 33+750km and 33+500km, direction Macelj has been closed.
  • until 15 September, traffic will proceed over one road lane only between the 6+800 and 8+700 km towards Zagreb, and between 16+800 and 13+700 km, direction Macelj
A3 Bregana-Lipovac motorway:
  • until 23 August, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and/or Thuesdays exclusively, from midnight until 4am, traffic will occasionally be suspended for up to 15 minutes for up to 4 times at the Zagreb zapad junction from the direction of Lipovac towards the A2 Zagreb-Macelj motorway. There will be no suspensions on national holidays, on the 14 and 15 August.
  • until 31 August, maintenance work at the Stari Grabovac sjever and Stari Grabovac jug rest areas will take place. Motorway users are allowed to use the services of the gas station, but parking areas will remain closed to all vehicles.
  • until 13 September, the Kraljeva Velika Sjever rest area (direction Zagreb) is closed due to reconstruction.
  • until 30 September due to roadwork on the Zagreb rest area (Plitvice), between the 16 and 17 km. Ttraffic will be proceeding with temporary traffic signalization. The driving speed limit will be reduced to 60km/h.

A4 Goričan-Zagreb motorway:

  • due to roadwork at the Sveta Helena pay toll area, the last ENC lane in the direction of Zagreb is closed to all traffic. The work will be carried out from Monday to Friday. The estimated duration of the work is until 31 August 2025..
A6 Rijeka-Zagreb motorway:
A7 Rupa-Rijeka motorway:
  • due to a damaged expansion joint on the Kuk viaduct between 41.900km and 41.500km in the direction of Rupa, traffic is reduced to two lanes with a driving speed limit of 40 km/h.
Istria's motorways (A8/A9)
  • between the Učka tunnel and Matulji (Učka) junction there is a traffic ban on vehicles wider than 3 m and longer than 22 m, in both directions;
  • due to roadwork between the Učka tunnel and the Matulji junction, temporary traffic regulation has been put into place and traffic might occasionally be suspended. Detour options for personal vehicles: DC500 Vranja state road – Šušnjevica – Vozilići i ŽC5047 Vranja county road – Veprinac – Matulji
  • on Monday, August 11, Tuesday, August 12 and Wednesday, August 13 between the Učka tunnel and the Matulji junction, due to roadwork, occasional short traffic interruptions are possible from 06 a.m. to 08 a.m. and 06 p.m. to 08 p.m. for the safety of all participants in the traffic, including the workers themselves

DC1 state road:

  • roadwork is in progress at Brnaze, from direction Sinj towards Split there is a traffic ban on vehicles longer than 7 m;
  • due to roadwork on the Sučević viaduct of the DC1 state road, traffic is proceeding alternately over one road lane.
DC5 Grubišno Polje-Veliki Zdenci:
  • due to roadwork, traffic on the DC5 state road between Grubišno Polje and Veliki Zdenci has been suspended. Detour: Grubišno Polje–Velika Barna–Veliki Grđevac–Pavlovac–Veliki Zdenci and vice versa.

DC36 Sisak-Popovača state road:

  • From August 9 at 6:00 am until August 11 at 8:00 pm, due to roadwork, on the DC36 state road between Sisak and Popovača, traffic will be suspended at the railway-road crossing in Popovača. Detour, for passenger vehicles: Potok (DC36) – Potok (LC 33017) – Osekovo (LC 33017) – Osekovo (LC 33019) – Popovača (LC 33019) – Popovača (ŽC 3124), in both directions. For freight vehicles will be redirected to the A3 motorway via the interchanges Križ, Popovača, and Kutina, and to the county road ŽC3124, section from Križ to Kutina.

  • Due to the changing weather conditions, check the Croatian Automobile Club official website or mobile app regularly for all traffic information (the information is available in real time and it changes regularly). For weather conditions, check the webpage of the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service.
  • Every day, in traffic, there are many cyclists, moped drivers and bikers. Other vehicle drivers are advised to pay attention to these vehicles on the road when joining traffic, changing lanes, overtaking, passing, making a U-turn, or turning. We also remind cyclists, moped riders, and motorcyclists to adjust their driving to traffic regulations and speed limits.

Traffic is dense at some border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro.

Notifications about waiting times at border crossings are subject to frequent changes. Access to cameras at border crossings is provided on the Croatian Automobile Club website.

Until 31 December 2026 at the Erdut-Bogojevo border crossing there is a traffic ban on freight vehicles exceeding 7,5 tonnes.

The Gunja-Brčko border crossing is closed for all traffic, detour: Županja-Orašje border crossing.

At the Ilok-Bačka Palanka bridge traffic is allowed for vehicles up to 24 tonnes (driving speed limit of 30 km/h).

Starting 3 Junly 2023 international traffic is possible at the Slivno-Drinovačko Brdo border crossing.

Transit freight traffic is suspended at the Tovarnik/Šid border crossing, detour: Bajakovo border crossing.

Traffic is suspended for vehicles whose maximum weight exceeds 7,5 tonnes at the Pribanjci-Vinica border crossing on the DC204 state road.

The Dvor and Vitaljina border crossings are open for pedestrians and passenger traffic only.

The border crossings for the international maritime traffic are: Umag, Pula, Mali Lošinj, Vis, Ubli and Cavtat (Book of Regulations on border crossings of the Republic of Croatia, pubblished at the Narodne novine, 2 January

Ferry traffic

The Split-Hvar-Split catamarane line has been suspended.

Until September 30, the ferry on the Split-Supetar route will depart from the port of Split at 4.50 p.m. instead of 4.30 p.m, and from the port of Supetar at 6.20 p.m. instead of 6 p.m.

Railway traffic status

Due to roadwork delays should be expected on the following sections as passengers are transported by buses:
- between Križevci and Koprivnica railway stations on the rail state border-Botovo-Dugo Selo,
- between Koprivnica and Kloštar railway stations on the rail Varaždin-Dalj,
- between Novska and Sisak Caprag railway stations on the rail Zagreb-Sisak-Novska,
- between Banova Jaruga and Virovitica railway stations,
- between Ogulin and Moravice railway stations on the rail Zagreb-Rijeka,
- between Donji Kraljevec and Kotoriba railway stations on the rail Čakovec-Kotoriba-state border,
- between Čakovec and Središče railway stations on the rail state border-Čakovec,
- between Sveti Ivan Žabno and Koprivnica railway stations,
- between Križevci and Sveti Ivan Žabno railway stations,
- between Čakovec and Macinec railway stations,

Driving restrictions for heavy goods vehicles

Summer restrictions on freight vehicles

15 June-15 September there are traffic restrictions on freight vehicles heavier than 7,5 tonnes on Saturdays 4am-2pm, on Sundays noon-11pm and on holidays 3pm-11pm on the following roads:

- DC8-DC40 Bakar junction-Zadar-Split-Klek border crossing-Zaton Doli border crossing-Dubrovnik-Karasovići border crossing (except on the part DC27-Šibenik bridge-Šibenik-DC58, Bilice roundabout at Solin-Stobreč);
- DC9-Metković-Opuzen-DC8;
- DC21 Kaštel border crossing-Buje-Kanfanar junction (except on the part DC21 Kanfanar-Pula-DC66);
- DC23 Žuta Lokva-Senj;
- DC39-A1-Šestanovac roundabout-DC8-Dupci;
- DC66 Pula junction (A9)-Raša-Opatija-DC8;
- DC200 Buje (DC21)-Plovanija border crossing;
- DC300 Buje (DC21)-Umag;
- Ž5002 Novigrad-Tar-Poreč-Vrsar (DC21);

Traffic restrictions for transit freight vehicles through Croatia:
  • For freight vehicle exceeding 7,5 tonnes there is a traffic ban on the DC414 state road from DC8-DC414 intersection to Prapratno junction as well as from Prapratno junction to Komarna junction (Pelješac bridge and its access roads).
  • According to the Book of regulations for public road transit traffic, freight vehicles heavier than 7,5 tonnes without a trailer/with a trailer longer than 14 m are allowed to use the following roads:

Traffic forecast for 19 August 2025

Traffic will occasionally flow slowly on city roads and their bypasses, some motorway sections, on access roads to tourist centers along the coast, in ferry ports and in roadwork areas.

Traffic bans due to strong wind are possible during morning on some parts of the DC8 Adriatic Road.

Queuing is expected on some sections of the motorways and traffic jams are possible in roadwork areas, as well as near rest areas, toll stations and tunnels.

Dense personal-vehicle traffic is expected at most border crossings with Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia, while longer delays are expected at the following border crossings: Bajakovo, Tovarnik, Karasovići, Maljevac and Stara Gradiška.

No difficulties are expected in ferry traffic.
