Traffic flow and road conditions

Due to strong wind there are traffic bans for certain vehicle categories on the coast (details below). Traffic is increased on major roads, city and bypass roads, access roads to tourist centres, ferry ports and at certain border crossings. There are occasional delays in areas of roadwork. Drivers are advised to adjust their speed and way of driving to road conditions.

MOTORWAYS

A1 Zagreb-Split-Dubrovnik

EXTRAORDINARY TRANSPORT:

until 12 Aug (1am - 5am), traffic will be occasionally suspended up to 15 minutes in direction Zagreb at the Karlovac paytoll and junction, Demerje and Lučko paytoll, Lučko junction (from A1 to A3 motorway) and at the Zagreb zapad junction (A3).

A2 Zagreb-Macelj:

traffic is proceeding over one lane only between the 17th and 13th km in direction Macelj (Krapina-Đurmanec) and between the 6th and 8th km in direction Zagreb (Trakošćan-Đurmanec)

A3 Bregana-Lipovac motorway:

until 31 Dec at the Zagreb zapad junction from direction Lipovac (A3) towards Zagreb, from direction Bregana (A3) and Macelj (A2) towards Zagreb (Sava bridge-Jankomir) traffic is flowing in one lane only;
until 31 Aug due to roadwork, the Kraljeva Velika sjever and Kraljeva Velika jug rest stops are closed in both directions
until September 1st due to roadwork between the Popovača and Kutina junctions in direction Lipovac (90th - 93rdkm), traffic is proceeding over two narrowed lanes; possible queues and delays with increased traffic density, especially on Fridays
until 3 October due to roadwork between the Sveta Nedelja and Zagreb zapad junctions in direction Lipovac, traffic will be proceeding over two reduced lanes in both directions on the road in direction Bregana; due to increased density, queues and delays are possible, especially in the morning and the afternoon and on the weekends

EXTRAORDINARY TRANSPORT:

until 2 September traffic will be temporarily suspended 4 times from 10pm to 4am in the Županja junction area

A4 Goričan-Zagreb motorway:

until 30 Aug due to roadwork between the Zagreb istok and Popovec junctions, between the 95th and 91st km, towards Goričan traffic will proceed in both directions over two narrowed lanes in direction Zagreb and over one narrowed lane in direction Goričan. In direction Goričan, traffic will proceed over one lane with a reduced speed limit of 80km/h. All Zagreb istok and Sesvete junctions exit slips are operating.

A6 Rijeka-Zagreb motorway:

EXTRAORDINARY TRANSPORT:

until 12 August from 1am until 4am, traffic will be temporarily suspended 3 times for up to 15 minutes between the Rijeka pay toll and the Kikovica junction in both directions

A7 Rupa-Rijeka motorway:

until 11 June 2027 traffic is flowing in reduced lanes at the Matulji-Opatija junction, A8 highway/DC8 state road intersection;

A8/A9 motorways in Istria:

due to roadwork on the A8 motorway, there is temporary traffic regulation;
due to roadwork between the Učka tunnel and Matulji junction, there is temporary traffic regulation with occasional traffic suspensions;
between the Kanfanar and Medaki junctions at the Limska Draga viaduct there is a traffic ban on delivery of cargo wider than 3 m in both directions;

STATE ROADS

DC1 Macelj-Zagreb-Karlovac-Gračac-Knin-Sinj state road:

until 7 Aug due to roadwork near the Westgate shopping centre in Zaprešić, traffic is proceeding over one narrowed lane
until 30 Nov due to roadwork between Otrić and Zrmanja, there is a speed limit and temporary traffic regulation

.DC2 Osijek-Vukovar:

until 17 December traffic is suspended due to roadwork between the DC2-ŽC4111 intersection and entrance in the Vukovar city, traffic will proceed on the bypass road ( DC2 (Nemetin junction) - DC213 (Sarvaš - Bijelo Brdo) - DC519 (Dalj - Borovo) - DC2 (Vukovar))

DC8 Adriatic road:

due to strong wind, traffic ban for category 1 vehicles (motorcycles, vehicles with trailers, double-decker buses) between Novi Vinodolski and Sveta Marija Magdalena
due to roadwork on some sections, traffic proceeding under temporary traffic signalisation
due to possible rockslides in Kaštel Kambelovac, traffic proceeding under temporary traffic signalisation

DC14 Zabok-Zlatar Bistrica:

due to the poor condition of the road and the bridge at the Poznanovac junction, there is a traffic ban until 31 January 2027 between Poznanovec and Dubovec;

DC24 Možđenec (DC22) - Rakovec - Varaždinske Toplice (DC526/ŽC22)

until December 31st traffic ban for freight vehicles exceeding the maximum weight of 7,5 tonnes between Rakovec and Varaždinske Toplice. Detour: A4 Varaždinske toplice junction-Novi Marof junction and vice versa.

DC28 Cugovec – Zvijerci – Bjelovar – Veliki Zdenci state road:

until 31 July due to roadwork between Bjelovar and Letičani, there is a traffic ban on all vehicles, detours on local and state roads.

DC100 Cres-Mali Lošinj:

on 11 August from 1am until 3am, a test of the Privlaka bridge will be conducted

DC547 Sveti Rok-Jasenice state road:

traffic is suspended for all vehicles due to road damage

TRAFFIC BAN FOR FREIGHT VEHICLES

Until 15 September on Saturdays (4am - 2pm) and Sundays (noon - 11pm), there will be a summer traffic ban for all freight vehicles with a maximum total weight exceeding 7.5t on some state roads in Istria and on the coast (except on motorways and the DC1 state road). EXTRAORDINARY TRANSPORT:

between 4 and 7 August and 11 and 13 August from 12:01am until 5am, traffic will be temporarily suspended for 15 minutes on the A3 Bregana-Lipovac motorway at the Bregana toll station (both directions) and on the A4 Goričan-Zagreb motorway between the Zagreb istok and Popovec junctions (from 4 to 7 Aug in both directions), at the Sveta Helena toll station (both directions) and at the Goričan toll station (both directions)

Border crossings

Due to bridge damage traffic is suspended between the Stara Gradiška and Gradiška border crossings (Croatia-Bosnia and Herzegovina) in both directions.

The border crossing Gornji Varoš (HR) - Gradiška (BiH) is open from May 19th.

At the border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro a new system of entering/exiting the country (so called Entry/Exit System - EES) is applied. It means that apart from having travel documents biometric passenger data will be collected (four fingerprints and face photo). The law does not refer to EU citizens.

Notifications about waiting time at border crossings are subject to frequent changes. Access to cameras at border crossings is provided on the Croatian Automobile Club website.

Until 31 December 2026 at the Erdut-Bogojevo border crossing there is a traffic ban on freight vehicles exceeding 7,5 tonnes.

The Gunja-Brčko border crossing is closed for all traffic, detour: Županja-Orašje border crossing.

At the Ilok-Bačka Palanka bridge traffic is allowed for vehicles up to 24 tonnes (driving speed limit of 30 km/h).

Starting 3 July 2023 international traffic is possible at the Slivno-Drinovačko Brdo border crossing.

Transit freight traffic is suspended at the Tovarnik/Šid border crossing, detour: Bajakovo border crossing.

Traffic is suspended for vehicles whose maximum weight exceeds 7,5 tonnes at the Pribanjci-Vinica border crossing on the DC204 state road.

The Dvor and Vitaljina border crossings are open for pedestrians and passenger traffic only.

The border crossings for the international maritime traffic are: Umag, Pula, Mali Lošinj, Vis, Ubli and Cavtat (Book of Regulations on border crossings of the Republic of Croatia, pubblished at the Narodne novine, 2 January 2023).

The 323 Jadrolinija Kraljevica-Crikvenica-Senj-Baška-Lopar-Rab-Lun Tovarnele is not operating.

On 7 August, the 9604 state line Ubli (Lastovo) - Vela Luka (Korčula) - Hvar - Split and vice versa will be under HSC Jadera instead of HSC Kolovara, departing from the Ubli port at 4:15am.

On 7 August, the 9808 state line Ubli (Lastovo) - Vela Luka (Korčula) - Hvar - Split and vice versa will be under HSC Kolovara instead of HSC Jadera, departing from the Ubli port at 6am.

Railway traffic

Railway traffic on 6 August 2026

Due to technical difficulties, passengers will be transported by buses on the following sections:

4710 Vodnjan 4:07pm - Lupoglav 5:33pm

38103 Buzet 7:40pm - Lupoglav 7:58pm

4717 Lupoglav 8:32pm - Pula 10:16pm

1 July-31 August passengers of the 5801, 5800, 5803 and 5802 trains on the section Knin-Perković as well as those of 5809, 5806, 5801 and 5802 trains on the section Knin-Šibenik are transported by buses.

Between the Pleternica and Čaglin train stations from Monday until Friday buses are operating instead of the 6703 and 6702 train lines.

Between the Križevci and Sveti Ivan Žabno train station from Monday until Friday buses are operating.

Due to roadwork, delays should be expected on the following sections as passengers are transported by buses:

- between the Križevci and Gyekenyes railway stations on the rail state border-Botovo-Dugo selo,

- between the Buzet and Lupoglav railway stations on the rail state border-Buzet-Pula,

- between the Varaždin and Koprivnica railway stations on the rail Varaždin-Koprivnica,

- between the Kloštar and Koprivnica, Osijek and Bizovac railway stations on the rail Koprivnica-Dalj,

- between the Novska and Sisak Caprag railway stations,

- between the Banova Jaruga and Virovitica railway stations,

Driving restrictions for heavy goods vehicles

Summer restrictions on freight vehicles

15 June-15 September there are traffic restrictions on freight vehicles heavier than 7,5 tonnes on Saturdays 4am-2pm, on Sundays noon-11pm and on holidays 3pm-11pm on the following roads:

- DC8-DC40 Bakar junction-Zadar-Split-Klek border crossing-Zaton Doli border crossing-Dubrovnik-Karasovići border crossing (except on the part DC27-Šibenik bridge-Šibenik-DC58, Bilice roundabout at Solin-Stobreč);

- DC9-Metković-Opuzen-DC8;

- DC21 Kaštel border crossing-Buje-Kanfanar junction (except on the part DC21 Kanfanar-Pula-DC66);

- DC23 Žuta Lokva-Senj;

- DC39-A1-Šestanovac roundabout-DC8-Dupci;

- DC66 Pula junction (A9)-Raša-Opatija-DC8;

Traffic restrictions for transit freight vehicles through Croatia:

For freight vehicle exceeding 7,5 tonnes there is a traffic ban on the DC414 state road from DC8-DC414 intersection to Prapratno junction as well as from Prapratno junction to Komarna junction (Pelješac bridge and its access roads).

According to the Book of regulations for public road transit traffic, freight vehicles heavier than 7,5 tonnes without a trailer/with a trailer longer than 14 m are allowed to use the following roads:

Traffic Forecast

Traffic forecast for 7 August 2026

In the middle of the day, especially in the interior and in northern and middle Adriatic areas, traffic will be proceeding over occasionally wet and slippery roads and roads may be flooded. Due to strong wind along the coast, traffic bans for certain vehicle categories are expected, especially on sections of the DC8 Adriatic road. Drivers are advised to adjust their speed and way of driving to road conditions and to maintain a safety distance between vehicles.

Increased traffic is expected on all major roads leading to the sea and the interior, on city and bypass roads, and especially on the A1 and A6 motorways in direction sea, A2 motorway at the Zagreb zapad junction, A4 motorway between the Popovec and Zagreb istok junctions in direction Zagreb, Istrian motorways between the Učka tunnel and junction, Krk bridge, and on several sections of the DC8 Adriatic road and on the DC1 state road in a roadwork area near Otrić.

There may be longer wait times at most border crossings for passenger and freight vehicles.

There may be difficulties in ferry traffic due to strong wind.
