Traffic flow and road conditions

Due to strong wind on the DC8 Adriatic road, there are traffic bans for certain vehicle categories (details below). Traffic is proceeding slowly in roadwork areas. We ask drivers to adjust their speed and way of driving to road conditions and maintain a safety distance between vehicles.

IRREGULAR TRAFFIC EVENTS:

due to a pedestrian on the A3 motorway between the Okučani and Novska junctions (140th km) in direction Bregana, there is a speed limit of 60 km/h

MOTORWAYS

A1 Zagreb-Ploče-Karamatići

EXTRAORDINARY TRANSPORT:

from 5 to 14 September between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. traffic will be suspended several times for up to 15 minutes near the Lučko and Split junctions
from 5 to 30 September between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. traffic will be suspended several times for up to 15 minutes near the Bisko junction

A2 Zagreb-Macelj

traffic is proceeding over one lane only between the 17th and 13th km in direction Macelj (Krapina-Đurmanec) and between the 6th and 8th km in direction Zagreb (Trakošćan-Đurmanec)
until 8 October due to roadworks, traffic will be proceeding over one lane between the 25th and 27th km in direction Zagreb
due to roadworks in the Frukov Krč tunnel from 9 September to 23 October, traffic will be proceeding in both directions over the eastbound road between the 2nd and 5th km

A3 Bregana-Lipovac

until 31 December at the Zagreb zapad junction from direction Lipovac (A3) towards Zagreb, from direction Bregana (A3) and Macelj (A2) towards Zagreb (Sava bridge-Jankomir) traffic is flowing in one lane only;
until 18 September due to roadwork between the Popovača and Kutina junctions in direction Lipovac (90th - 93rdkm), traffic is proceeding over two narrowed lanes; possible queues and delays with increased traffic density, especially on Fridays
until 3 October due to roadwork between the Sveta Nedelja and Zagreb zapad junctions in direction Lipovac, traffic will be proceeding over two reduced lanes in both directions on the road in direction Bregana; due to increased density, queues and delays are possible, especially in the morning and the afternoon and on the weekends

EXTRAORDINARY TRANSPORT:

from 5 to 14 September between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. traffic will be suspended several times for up to 15 minutes between the Sveta Nedelja and Zagreb zapad junctions
from 15 to 24 September between 11pm and 5am, traffic will be temporarily suspended once at the Okučani junction for up to 15 minutes

A4 Goričan-Zagreb

until 4 Sep due to roadwork between the Zagreb istok and Popovec junctions, between the 95th and 91st km, towards Goričan traffic will proceed in both directions over two narrowed lanes in direction Zagreb and over one narrowed lane in direction Goričan. In direction Goričan, traffic will proceed over one lane with a reduced speed limit of 80km/h. All Zagreb istok and Sesvete junctions exit slips are operating.

EXTRAORDINARY TRANSPORT:

from 7 until 9 September between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. traffic will be suspended for up to 15 minutes at the Varaždin junction in direction Goričan

A6 Rijeka-Zagreb

until 30 September from midnight to 4 a.m. traffic will be suspended 3 times for up to 15 minutes between the Rijeka pay toll and Kikovica junction in both directions

A7 Rupa-Rijeka-Šmrika

until 11 June 2027 traffic is flowing in reduced lanes at the Matulji-Opatija junction, A8 highway/DC8 state road intersection;

A8/A9 motorways in Istria

due to roadwork on the A8 motorway, there is temporary traffic regulation;
due to roadwork between the Učka tunnel and Matulji junction, there is temporary traffic regulation with occasional traffic suspensions;
between the Kanfanar and Medaki junctions at the Limska Draga viaduct there is a traffic ban on delivery of cargo wider than 3 m in both directions;

STATE ROADS

DC1 Macelj-Zagreb-Karlovac-Gračac-Knin-Sinj and Solin-Klis expressway

until 31 December, due to roadwork near the shopping centre in Zaprešić, traffic is proceeding over one reduced lane with temporary regulation
until 30 November, due to roadwork between Otrić and Zrmanja, there is a speed limit and temporary traffic regulation

DC2 Osijek-Vukovar state road

until 17 December section between the intersection of the DC2 and ŽC4111 regional road (near Bobota) and entry to the city of Vukovar will be closed; detour from the DC2 state road (Nemetin junction) over the DC213 state road (Sarvaš - Bijelo Brdo) and then onto the DC519 state road (Dalj) to the DC2 state road in Vukovar and the other way around

DC8 Adriatic road

traffic ban for double-decker buses, vehicles with trailers and motorcycles (1st vehicle category) between Novi Vinodolski and Sveta Marija Magdalena
due to roadwork on some sections, traffic proceeding under temporary traffic signalisation

DC14 Zabok-Zlatar Bistrica

until 31 January 2027, closed for all traffic between Poznanovec and Dubovec due to the poor condition of the road and the bridge at the Poznanovac junction;

DC24 Možđenec (DC22) - Rakovec - Varaždinske Toplice (DC526/ŽC22)

until 31 December, traffic ban for freight vehicles exceeding the maximum weight of 7,5 tonnes between Rakovec and Varaždinske Toplice - detour: A4 Varaždinske toplice junction-Novi Marof junction and vice versa

DC28 Cugovec – Zvijerci – Bjelovar – Veliki Zdenci

until 7 September, the section between Predavac and Letičani (the northern section of the Bjelovar-city bypass) will be closed for all traffic - detour: other local and state roads

TRAFFIC BAN FOR FREIGHT VEHICLES

Until 15 September on Saturdays (4am - 2pm) and Sundays (noon - 11pm), there will be a summer traffic ban for all freight vehicles with a maximum total weight exceeding 7.5 t on some state roads in Istria and on the coast (except on motorways and the DC1 state road). until 6 September and from 7 until 14 September from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. traffic will be temporarily suspended for up to 15 minutes on the A3 motorway near the Zagreb zapad and Lučko junctions and on the A1 motorway near the Bisko junction
from 9 until 14 September from 11pm until 5am, traffic will be temporarily suspended for up to 15 minutes on the A1 Zagreb-Split-Dubrovnik motorway at the Bisko junction and on the A3 Bregana-Lipovac motorway at the Lučko junction
from 11 to 18 September from 11pm until 5am, traffic will be temporarily suspended multiple times for up to 15 minutes on the A3 Bregana-Lipovac motorway at the Lučko junction in direction Lipovac and on the A4 Goričan-Zagreb motorway at the Zagreb istok junction in direction Goričan and between the Breznički Hum and Novi Marof junctions in both directions

BEGINNING OF THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR

From Monday 7 September there will be many pupils in traffic as the new school year is beginning. Since pedestrians, and especially children, are the most vulnerable partakers in traffic, increased caution and extremely careful way of driving are expected from drivers near schools and kindergartens, as well as on all other roads heading towards them. Follow the traffic rules and road signs. Pay attention to children walking by the road because they are playful and not focused on traffic. We remind you that the maximum allowed speed near schools and kindergartens is 40 km/h.

DRIVERS

when driving towards a pedestrian crossing pay attention - slow down – give way to pedestrians - do not obstruct - do not endanger!
watch out for children walking by the road!
in case of danger, warn others of your presence with a sound signal (horn)!
slow down and drive carefully near schools and kindergartens!
do not endanger vulnerable or less-protected than you: children, pedestrians, elders, handicapped people, cyclists, moped drivers!
parents review with your children how to properly behave in traffic, walk the way to school with them, warn them of the most dangerous places and remind them of the most important traffic rules before they leave for school, especially younger children

CHILDREN

never run over the road
do not obstruct the movement of vehicles
walk carefully
do not enter the road between parked cars
walk on pavements
cross the road only at pedestrian crossings
cross the road on green light only
always look left and then right, cross the road only if there are no vehicles nearby

Another very important rule for parents – when driving your child, do not forget to fasten their seat belt. Seat belts save lives, particularly children's.

Due to a film shooting, traffic will be occasionally suspended in short intervals:

Border crossings

Due to bridge damage traffic is suspended between the Stara Gradiška and Gradiška border crossings (Croatia-Bosnia and Herzegovina) in both directions.

The border crossing Gornji Varoš (HR) - Gradiška (BiH) is open from May 19th.

At the border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro a new system of entering/exiting the country (so called Entry/Exit System - EES) is applied. It means that apart from having travel documents biometric passenger data will be collected (four fingerprints and face photo). The law does not refer to EU citizens.

Notifications about waiting time at border crossings are subject to frequent changes. Access to cameras at border crossings is provided on the Croatian Automobile Club website.

Until 31 December 2026 at the Erdut-Bogojevo border crossing there is a traffic ban on freight vehicles exceeding 7,5 tonnes.

The Gunja-Brčko border crossing is closed for all traffic, detour: Županja-Orašje border crossing.

At the Ilok-Bačka Palanka bridge traffic is allowed for vehicles up to 24 tonnes (driving speed limit of 30 km/h).

Starting 3 July 2023 international traffic is possible at the Slivno-Drinovačko Brdo border crossing.

Transit freight traffic is suspended at the Tovarnik/Šid border crossing, detour: Bajakovo border crossing.

Traffic is suspended for vehicles whose maximum weight exceeds 7,5 tonnes at the Pribanjci-Vinica border crossing on the DC204 state road.

The Dvor and Vitaljina border crossings are open for pedestrians and passenger traffic only.

The border crossings for the international maritime traffic are: Umag, Pula, Mali Lošinj, Vis, Ubli and Cavtat (Book of Regulations on border crossings of the Republic of Croatia, pubblished at the Narodne novine, 2 January 2023).

Railway traffic

Between the Pleternica and Čaglin train stations from Monday until Friday buses are operating instead of the 6703 and 6702 train lines.

Between the Križevci and Sveti Ivan Žabno train stations from Monday until Friday buses are operating instead of the 2381, 2383 and 2385 train lines.

Due to roadwork, delays should be expected on the following sections as passengers are transported by buses:

- between the Škrljevo and Rijeka railway stations on the Zagreb GK - Rijeka rail,

- between the Križevci and Gyekenyes railway stations on the rail state border-Botovo-Dugo selo,

- between the Zabok - Varaždin - Čakovec and Kotoriba railway stations,

- between the Prečec and Dugo Selo railway stations on the rail Dugo Selo-Novska,

- between the Pleternica and Blacko Jakšić railway stations on the Pleternica - Velika rail.,

- between the Varaždin and Koprivnica railway stations on the rail Varaždin-Koprivnica,

- between the Kloštar and Koprivnica, Osijek and Bizovac railway stations on the rail Koprivnica-Dalj,

- between the Novska and Sisak Caprag railway stations,

- between the Banova Jaruga and Virovitica railway stations,

- between the Duga Resa, Karlovac and Bubnjarci railway stations.

Due to roadworks, traffic will be proceeding over one rail and delays are expected:

- on the state border - Botovo - Dugo Selo rail between the Dugo Selo and Vrbovec railway stations from 8:30 a.m. to 3:55 p.m.

- on the Novska - Tovarnik - state border rail between the Slavonski Brod and Sibinj railway stations from 7:40 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Summer restrictions on freight vehicles

15 June-15 September there are traffic restrictions on freight vehicles heavier than 7,5 tonnes on Saturdays 4am-2pm, on Sundays noon-11pm and on holidays 3pm-11pm on the following roads:

- DC8-DC40 Bakar junction-Zadar-Split-Klek border crossing-Zaton Doli border crossing-Dubrovnik-Karasovići border crossing (except on the part DC27-Šibenik bridge-Šibenik-DC58, Bilice roundabout at Solin-Stobreč);

- DC9-Metković-Opuzen-DC8;

- DC21 Kaštel border crossing-Buje-Kanfanar junction (except on the part DC21 Kanfanar-Pula-DC66);

- DC23 Žuta Lokva-Senj;

- DC39-A1-Šestanovac roundabout-DC8-Dupci;

- DC66 Pula junction (A9)-Raša-Opatija-DC8;

Traffic restrictions for transit freight vehicles through Croatia:

For freight vehicle exceeding 7,5 tonnes there is a traffic ban on the DC414 state road from DC8-DC414 intersection to Prapratno junction as well as from Prapratno junction to Komarna junction (Pelješac bridge and its access roads).

According to the Book of regulations for public road transit traffic, freight vehicles heavier than 7,5 tonnes without a trailer/with a trailer longer than 14 m are allowed to use the following roads:

Traffic forecast for 6 September 2026

In the evening and morning, there is a possibility of fog in most of the interior. Roads will be wet and slippery in foggy areas.

Due to strong wind on the coast, especially in the northern Adriatic area, some limitations may be imposed for certain vehicle categories.

During the day increased traffic is expected on most roads leading to the interior. Drivers are advised to maintain a safety distance between vehicles.

Tomorrow between 12pm and 11pm there will be a summer traffic ban for freight vehicles exceeding the maximum weight of 7,5 tonnes on certain state roads in Istria and along the coast (except for motorways and the DC1 state road).

Longer wait times are expected in passenger traffic on most border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro.

Due to strong wind there may be difficulties in ferry traffic.
