Traffic flow and road conditions

Traffic is proceeding without difficulties on most roads. There may be occasional delays in roadwork areas. Drivers are reminded to keep distance and to form an emergency corridor for emergency services in case of traffic jams.

IRREGULAR TRAFFIC EVENTS:

ATTENTION: due to an animal (deer) on the A1 Zagreb-Split-Dubrovnik motorway between the Karlovac and Novigrad junctions (49th km), there is a speed limit of 60 km/h
due to a damaged telephone line on the DC8 Adriatic road in Permani, there is a speed limit of 30 km/h

MOTORWAYS

A1 Zagreb-Split-Dubrovnik

EXTRAORDINARY TRANSPORT:

until 12 Aug (1am - 5am), traffic will be occasionally suspended up to 15 minutes in direction Zagreb at the Karlovac paytoll and junction, Demerje and Lučko paytoll, Lučko junction (from A1 to A3 motorway) and at the Zagreb zapad junction (A3).
on 4/5 August and 5/6 August (11pm - 4am), traffic will be temporarily suspended twice for 15 minutes at the Lučko toll station (both directions), Demerje toll station (direction Zagreb) and Draganić rest stop (direction Split/Rijeka)

A2 Zagreb-Macelj:

traffic is proceeding over one lane only between the 17th and 13th km in direction Macelj (Krapina-Đurmanec) and between the 6th and 8th km in direction Zagreb (Trakošćan-Đurmanec)

A3 Bregana-Lipovac motorway:

until 31 Dec at the Zagreb zapad junction from direction Lipovac (A3) towards Zagreb, from direction Bregana (A3) and Macelj (A2) towards Zagreb (Sava bridge-Jankomir) traffic is flowing in one lane only;
until 31 Aug due to roadwork, the Kraljeva Velika sjever and Kraljeva Velika jug rest stops are closed in both directions
until September 1st due to roadwork between the Popovača and Kutina junctions in direction Lipovac (90th - 93rdkm), traffic is proceeding over two narrowed lanes; possible queues and delays with increased traffic density, especially on Fridays
until 3 October due to roadwork between the Sveta Nedelja and Zagreb zapad junctions in direction Lipovac, traffic will be proceeding over two reduced lanes in both directions on the road in direction Bregana; due to increased density, queues and delays are possible, especially in the morning and the afternoon and on the weekends

EXTRAORDINARY TRANSPORT:

until 2 September traffic will be temporarily suspended 4 times from 10pm to 4am in the Županja junction area

A4 Goričan-Zagreb motorway:

until 30 Aug due to roadwork between the Zagreb istok and Popovec junctions, between the 95th and 91st km, towards Goričan traffic will proceed in both directions over two narrowed lanes in direction Zagreb and over one narrowed lane in direction Goričan. In direction Goričan, traffic will proceed over one lane with a reduced speed limit of 80km/h. All Zagreb istok and Sesvete junctions exit slips are operating.

A6 Rijeka-Zagreb motorway:

EXTRAORDINARY TRANSPORT:

until 12 August from 1am until 4am, traffic will be temporarily suspended 3 times for up to 15 minutes between the Rijeka pay toll and the Kikovica junction in both directions
on 5/6 August from 11pm until 4am, traffic will be temporarily suspended for 15 minutes at the Orehovica junction

A7 Rupa-Rijeka motorway:

until 11 June 2027 traffic is flowing in reduced lanes at the Matulji-Opatija junction, A8 highway/DC8 state road intersection;

A8/A9 motorways in Istria:

due to roadwork on the A8 motorway, there is temporary traffic regulation;
due to roadwork between the Učka tunnel and Matulji junction, there is temporary traffic regulation with occasional traffic suspensions;
between the Kanfanar and Medaki junctions at the Limska Draga viaduct there is a traffic ban on delivery of cargo wider than 3 m in both directions;

STATE ROADS

DC1 Macelj-Zagreb-Karlovac-Gračac-Knin-Sinj state road:

until 7 Aug due to roadwork near the Westgate shopping centre in Zaprešić, traffic is proceeding over one narrowed lane
until 30 Nov due to roadwork between Otrić and Zrmanja, there is a speed limit and temporary traffic regulation

.DC2 Osijek-Vukovar:

until 17 December traffic is suspended due to roadwork between the DC2-ŽC4111 intersection and entrance in the Vukovar city, traffic will proceed on the bypass road ( DC2 (Nemetin junction) - DC213 (Sarvaš - Bijelo Brdo) - DC519 (Dalj - Borovo) - DC2 (Vukovar))

DC8 Adriatic road:

due to roadwork on some sections, traffic proceeding under temporary traffic signalisation
due to possible rockslides in Kaštel Kambelovac, traffic proceeding under temporary traffic signalisation

DC14 Zabok-Zlatar Bistrica:

due to the poor condition of the road and the bridge at the Poznanovac junction, there is a traffic ban until 31 January 2027 between Poznanovec and Dubovec;

DC24 Možđenec (DC22) - Rakovec - Varaždinske Toplice (DC526/ŽC22)

until December 31st traffic ban for freight vehicles exceeding the maximum weight of 7,5 tonnes between Rakovec and Varaždinske Toplice. Detour: A4 Varaždinske toplice junction-Novi Marof junction and vice versa.

DC28 Cugovec – Zvijerci – Bjelovar – Veliki Zdenci state road:

until 31 July due to roadwork between Bjelovar and Letičani, there is a traffic ban on all vehicles, detours on local and state roads.

DC33 GP Strmica - Knin (DC1) - Drniš - Šibenik

from August 6 at 6pm until August 7 at 6pm traffic will be closed due to roadwork on the Jabuka passage. Detour: DC33 Drniš-ŽC6055-Oklaj-ŽC6056-Vrbnik-DC33-Siverić and vice versa

DC102 Krk bridge

4 August, from 9pm until 9:05pm, traffic on the Krk bridge will be temporarily suspended due to the memorial manifestation ''Oluja na Kvarneru''

DC547 Sveti Rok-Jasenice state road:

traffic is suspended for all vehicles due to road damage

TRAFFIC BAN FOR FREIGHT VEHICLES

Due to the upcoming Croatian national holiday (Victory Day) on August 5th, a traffic ban will be in effect for freight vehicles heavier than 7,5 tonnes, today between 3pm and 11pm, tomorrow between 2pm and 11pm on state roads in Istria and along the Adriatic coast.

Until 15 September on Saturdays (4am - 2pm) and Sundays (noon - 11pm), there will be a summer traffic ban for all freight vehicles with a maximum total weight exceeding 7.5t on some state roads in Istria and on the coast (except on motorways and the DC1 state road). EXTRAORDINARY TRANSPORT:

between 4 and 7 August and 11 and 13 August from 12:01am until 5am, traffic will be temporarily suspended for 15 minutes on the A3 Bregana-Lipovac motorway at the Bregana toll station (both directions) and on the A4 Goričan-Zagreb motorway between the Zagreb istok and Popovec junctions (from 4 to 7 Aug in both directions), at the Sveta Helena toll station (both directions) and at the Goričan toll station (both directions)
on 5 August at 10pm, there will be extraordinary transport on the following route: Pasjak - Rupa junction (A7) - Škurinje tunnel (A7) - Škurinje junction (A7) - DC403 - Ulica Milutina Barača, Rijeka

Border crossings

Due to bridge damage traffic is suspended between the Stara Gradiška and Gradiška border crossings (Croatia-Bosnia and Herzegovina) in both directions.

The border crossing Gornji Varoš (HR) - Gradiška (BiH) is open from May 19th.

At the border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro a new system of entering/exiting the country (so called Entry/Exit System - EES) is applied. It means that apart from having travel documents biometric passenger data will be collected (four fingerprints and face photo). The law does not refer to EU citizens.

Notifications about waiting time at border crossings are subject to frequent changes. Access to cameras at border crossings is provided on the Croatian Automobile Club website.

Until 31 December 2026 at the Erdut-Bogojevo border crossing there is a traffic ban on freight vehicles exceeding 7,5 tonnes.

The Gunja-Brčko border crossing is closed for all traffic, detour: Županja-Orašje border crossing.

At the Ilok-Bačka Palanka bridge traffic is allowed for vehicles up to 24 tonnes (driving speed limit of 30 km/h).

Starting 3 July 2023 international traffic is possible at the Slivno-Drinovačko Brdo border crossing.

Transit freight traffic is suspended at the Tovarnik/Šid border crossing, detour: Bajakovo border crossing.

Traffic is suspended for vehicles whose maximum weight exceeds 7,5 tonnes at the Pribanjci-Vinica border crossing on the DC204 state road.

The Dvor and Vitaljina border crossings are open for pedestrians and passenger traffic only.

The border crossings for the international maritime traffic are: Umag, Pula, Mali Lošinj, Vis, Ubli and Cavtat (Book of Regulations on border crossings of the Republic of Croatia, pubblished at the Narodne novine, 2 January 2023).

Ferry traffic

In ferry traffic, there are no difficulties.

On August 6th, the 9604 state line Ubli (Lastovo) - Vela Luka (Korčula) - Hvar - Split and vice versa will be under HSC Jadera instead of HSC Kolovara, departing from the Ubli port at 4:15am.

Railway traffic

Railway traffic on 3 August 2026

1 July-31 August passengers of the 5801, 5800, 5803 and 5802 trains on the section Knin-Perković as well as those of 5809, 5806, 5801 and 5802 trains on the section Knin-Šibenik are transported by buses.

Between the Pleternica and Čaglin train stations from Monday until Friday buses are operating instead of the 6703 and 6702 train lines.

Between the Križevci and Sveti Ivan Žabno train station from Monday until Friday buses are operating.

Due to roadwork, delays should be expected on the following sections as passengers are transported by buses:

- between the Križevci and Gyekenyes railway stations on the rail state border-Botovo-Dugo selo,

- between the Buzet and Lupoglav railway stations on the rail state border-Buzet-Pula,

- between the Varaždin and Koprivnica railway stations on the rail Varaždin-Koprivnica,

- between the Kloštar and Koprivnica, Osijek and Bizovac railway stations on the rail Koprivnica-Dalj,

- between the Novska and Sisak Caprag railway stations,

- between the Banova Jaruga and Virovitica railway stations,

- between the Duga Resa, Karlovac and Bubnjarci railway stations.

Driving restrictions for heavy goods vehicles

Summer restrictions on freight vehicles

15 June-15 September there are traffic restrictions on freight vehicles heavier than 7,5 tonnes on Saturdays 4am-2pm, on Sundays noon-11pm and on holidays 3pm-11pm on the following roads:

- DC8-DC40 Bakar junction-Zadar-Split-Klek border crossing-Zaton Doli border crossing-Dubrovnik-Karasovići border crossing (except on the part DC27-Šibenik bridge-Šibenik-DC58, Bilice roundabout at Solin-Stobreč);

- DC9-Metković-Opuzen-DC8;

- DC21 Kaštel border crossing-Buje-Kanfanar junction (except on the part DC21 Kanfanar-Pula-DC66);

- DC23 Žuta Lokva-Senj;

- DC39-A1-Šestanovac roundabout-DC8-Dupci;

- DC66 Pula junction (A9)-Raša-Opatija-DC8;

- DC200 Buje (DC21)-Plovanija border crossing;

- DC300 Buje (DC21)-Umag;

Traffic restrictions for transit freight vehicles through Croatia:

For freight vehicle exceeding 7,5 tonnes there is a traffic ban on the DC414 state road from DC8-DC414 intersection to Prapratno junction as well as from Prapratno junction to Komarna junction (Pelješac bridge and its access roads).

According to the Book of regulations for public road transit traffic, freight vehicles heavier than 7,5 tonnes without a trailer/with a trailer longer than 14 m are allowed to use the following roads:

Traffic forecast for 5 August 2026

During the day, queues and delays are expected on most roads leading to the sea and on access roads to tourist centres, especially along the DC8 Adriatic road, the Solin-Klis expressway (DC1), the Krk bridge and on certain state roads.

Due to the national holiday (Victory Day), a traffic ban will be in effect for freight vehicles exceeding the maximum weight of 7,5 tonnes tomorrow between 2pm and 11pm on certain state roads along the Adriatic coast.

There may be longer wait times at some border crossings: Gornji Varoš, Ličko Petrovo Selo, Svilaj, Bajakovo, Karasovići and Tovarnik.

In ferry traffic, no difficulties are expected.
