Traffic flow and road conditions

Traffic is occasionally slow on city and bypass roads and in areas of roadwork and temporary traffic regulation, especially on the motorways in Istria (A8) between the Učka junction and tunnel and on several sections of the DC1 state road and the DC8 Adriatic road.

Drivers are invited to respect traffic regulations and limits, especially speed limits, and to pay close attention to the many motocyclists and bicyclists on the road.

TRAFFIC INCIDENTS AND IRREGULAR EVENTS:

due to a traffic accident on the A3 Bregana-Lipovac motorway between the Lučko and Buzin junctions in direction Lipovac, traffic is proceeding over one lane with a speed limit of 60 km/h;
due to a traffic accident on the A3 Bregana-Lipovac motorway between the Kutina and Lipovljani junctions in direction Lipovac, there is a speed limit of 60 km/h;
due to a traffic accident on the A7 Rupa-Rijeka motorway at the Orehovica junction in direction Rupa, traffic is proceeding over one lane with a speed limit of 40 km/h;
increased traffic density on the A1 Zagreb-Ploče-Karamatići motorway between the Lučko and Bosiljevo 2 junctions in both directions;
increased traffic density on the Zagreb bypass road (A3) between the Zagreb istok and Zagreb zapad junctions in direction Bregana.

MOTORWAYS:

A1 Zagreb-Ploče-Karamatići motorway:

on 2nd and 3rd July between 11 P.M. and 5 A.M. traffic will be suspended in both directions between the Brinje and Žuta Lokva junctions and between Žuta Lokva and Otočac junctions. Detour for the Brinje-Žuta Lokva section: DC23, detour for the Žuta Lokva-Otočac section: DC23 and DC50

A2 Zagreb-Macelj motorway:

A3 Bregana-Lipovac motorway:

until 31 Dec at the Zagreb zapad junction from direction Lipovac (A3) towards Zagreb, from direction Bregana (A3) and Macelj (A2) towards Zagreb (Sava bridge-Jankomir) traffic is flowing in one lane only;
until 23 July due to drainage repairs between the Popovača and Kutina junctions, direction Lipovac, traffic will proceed on two narrowed lanes; due to dense traffic, daily traffic jams and queues are possible, especially on Fridays;
until 31 Aug due to roadwork, the Kraljeva Velika sjever and Kraljeva Velika jug rest stops are closed in both directions.

A4 Zagreb-Goričan motorway:

until 1 Aug due to roadwork between the Zagreb istok and Popovec junctions traffic will proceed in reduced lanes in both directions and queues are expected;
until 3 July between the Novi Marof and Breznički Hum junctions 56th-54th km one lane is free only in each direction;

A6 Rijeka-Zagreb motorway:

until 30 June between the Bosiljevo 2 and Vrbovsko junctions at the Zečeve Drage viaduct one lane is free only in each direction;
between the 25 June and 10 July (during one night only) , traffic will be suspended on the section between the Rijeka and Kikovica junctions in both directions;

A7 Rupa-Rijeka motorway:

until 11 June 2027 traffic is flowing in reduced lanes at the Matulji-Opatija junction, A8 highway/DC8 state road intersection;

A8/A9 highway in Istria

due to roadwork on the A8 motorway, there is temporary traffic regulation;
due to roadwork between between the Učka tunnel and Matulji junction, there is temporary traffic regulation with occasional traffic suspensions;
between the Kanfanar and Medaki junctions at the Limska Draga viaduct there is a traffic ban on abnormal load larger than 3,3 m in both directions;
between 29 June and 2 July (9am - 6pm) at the Učka junction, traffic will be temporarily suspended multiple times for 5 minutes.

STATE ROADS

DC1 Macelj-Zagreb-Karlovac-Gračac-Knin-Sinj state road:

due to roadwork on certain sections, there is temporary traffic signalisation;
until 9 July traffic is closed at the Krapina viaduct;
until 29 June due to roadwork in Sinj at the intersection of the streets Splitska ulica and Ulica Miljenka Buljana, traffic is suspended, detour: LC67040 (M. Buljana) - Put Ferate - Bazana - P. Vučkovića;
until 1 July due to roadwork in Sinj, traffic through Sinj is proceeding in one lane in direction Split and on detours in direction Drniš: DC1-Ulica Pavla Vučkovića-Bazana/Ulica Miljenka Buljana;
until 30 Nov due to roadwork between Otrić and Zrmanja, there is a speed limit and temporary traffic regulation.

DC2 Osijek-Vukovar:

until 17 December traffic is suspended due to roadwork between the DC2-ŽC4111 intersection and entrance in the Vukovar city, traffic will proceed on the bypass road ( DC2 (Nemetin junction) - DC213 (Sarvaš - Bijelo Brdo) - DC519 (Dalj - Borovo) - DC2 (Vukovar));

DC8 Adriatic road:

due to roadwork on some sections, there is temporary traffic signalisation;
between Split and Omiš in Jesenice, traffic is proceeding with temporary traffic regulation.

DC14 Zabok-Zlatar Bistrica:

due to the poor condition of the road and the bridge on the state road DC14, Poznanovac junctions, there is a traffic ban between the Poznanovec and Dubovec;

DC28 Cugovec – Zvijerci – Bjelovar – Veliki Zdenci state road:

until 31 July due to roadwork between Bjelovar and Letičani, there is a traffic ban on all vehicles, detours on local and state roads.

DC100 Cres island:

until 1 July the Privlaka bridge is closed for traffic;

DC512 Makarska-Ravča state road:

due to rock sliding traffic is suspended at the Stupica tunnel towards Vrgorac;

DC547 Sveti Rok-Jasenice state road:

traffic is closed due to road damage.

TRAFFIC BAN FOR FREIGHT VEHICLES

Until 15 September on Saturday (4am - 2pm) and Sunday (noon - 11pm), there will be a summer traffic ban for all freight vehicles with a maximum total weight exceeding 7.5t on some state roads in Istria and on the coast (except on motorways and the DC1 state road). EXTRAORDINARY TRANSPORT

From 21 June until 15 July between 12:01am and 5am, traffic will be suspended twice for 15 minutes in the following sections:

on the A3 Bregana-Lipovac motorway at the Bregana paytoll in both directions;
on the A4 Zagreb-Goričan motorway at the Sveta Helena and Goričan paytolls in both directions.

Border crossings

Due to bridge damage traffic is suspended between the Stara Gradiška and Gradiška border crossings (Croatia-Bosnia and Herzegovina) in both directions.

The border crossing Gornji Varoš (HR) - Gradiška (BiH) is open from May 19th.

At the border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro a new system of entering/exiting the country (so called Entry/Exit System - EES) is applied. It means that apart from having travel documents biometric passenger data will be collected (four fingerprints and face photo). The law does not refer to EU citizens.

Notifications about waiting time at border crossings are subject to frequent changes. Access to cameras at border crossings is provided on the Croatian Automobile Club website.

Until 31 December 2026 at the Erdut-Bogojevo border crossing there is a traffic ban on freight vehicles exceeding 7,5 tonnes.

The Gunja-Brčko border crossing is closed for all traffic, detour: Županja-Orašje border crossing.

At the Ilok-Bačka Palanka bridge traffic is allowed for vehicles up to 24 tonnes (driving speed limit of 30 km/h).

Starting 3 July 2023 international traffic is possible at the Slivno-Drinovačko Brdo border crossing.

Transit freight traffic is suspended at the Tovarnik/Šid border crossing, detour: Bajakovo border crossing.

Traffic is suspended for vehicles whose maximum weight exceeds 7,5 tonnes at the Pribanjci-Vinica border crossing on the DC204 state road.

The Dvor and Vitaljina border crossings are open for pedestrians and passenger traffic only.

The border crossings for the international maritime traffic are: Umag, Pula, Mali Lošinj, Vis, Ubli and Cavtat (Book of Regulations on border crossings of the Republic of Croatia, pubblished at the Narodne novine, 2 January 2023).

Ferry traffic

Ferries and catamarans operate according to timetable. Increased inflow is expected during the day at ferry ports.

The ferry line Sućuraj - Drvenik with departure from Sućuraj at 6pm and 7:45pm and from Drvenik at 7pm and 8:30pm is not operating. It will operate again at 10pm departing from Sućuraj.

Timetable changes:

from 15 June, the ship line 661 Split-Hvar-Korčula is in operation, departure from Split at 12:15pm.

Railway traffic

Railway traffic, 29 June 2026

Due to technical issues passengers of the following trains are transported by buses:

5803 Knin 8.05am – Perković 9.03am
5802 Perković 09.26am – Knin 10.28am.

1 July-31 August passengers of the 5801, 5800, 5803 and 5802 trains on the section Knin-Perković as well as those of 5809, 5806, 5081 and 5802 trains on the section Knin-Šibenik are transported by buses.

Due to roadwork delays should be expected on the following sections as passengers are transported by buses:

- between the Buzet and Lupoglav railway stations on the rail state border-Buzet-Pula,

- between the Novi Marof and Varaždin railway stations on the rail Zaprešić-Čakovec,

- between the Križevci and Gyekenyes railway stations on the rail state border-Botovo-Dugo Selo,

- between the Varaždin and Koprivnica railway stations on the rail Varaždin-Koprivnica,

- between the Kloštar and Koprivnica, Osijek and Bizovac railway stations on the rail Koprivnica-Dalj,

- between the Novska and Sisak Caprag railway stations on the rail Zagreb-Sisak-Novska,

- between the Banova Jaruga and Virovitica railway stations,

- between the Erdut and Dalj railway stations on the rail Vukovar-Borovo naselje-Erdut-state border,

- between the Križevci and Sveti Ivan Žabno railway stations.

One lane is free only:

- between the Dugo Selo and Vrbovec railway stations on the rail state border-Botovo-Dugo Selo,

- between the Gradec and Križevci railway stations on the rail state border-Botovo-Dugo Selo 8.40am-4pm,

- between the Slavonski Brod and Sibinj railway stations on the rail Novska-Tovarnik-state border until 14 July at 9.30pm.

Driving restrictions for heavy goods vehicles

Summer restrictions on freight vehicles

15 June-15 September there are traffic restrictions on freight vehicles heavier than 7,5 tonnes on Saturdays 4am-2pm, on Sundays noon-11pm and on holidays 3pm-11pm on the following roads:

- DC8-DC40 Bakar junction-Zadar-Split-Klek border crossing-Zaton Doli border crossing-Dubrovnik-Karasovići border crossing (except on the part DC27-Šibenik bridge-Šibenik-DC58, Bilice roundabout at Solin-Stobreč);

- DC9-Metković-Opuzen-DC8;

- DC21 Kaštel border crossing-Buje-Kanfanar junction (except on the part DC21 Kanfanar-Pula-DC66);

- DC23 Žuta Lokva-Senj;

- DC39-A1-Šestanovac roundabout-DC8-Dupci;

- DC66 Pula junction (A9)-Raša-Opatija-DC8;

- DC200 Buje (DC21)-Plovanija border crossing;

Traffic restrictions for transit freight vehicles through Croatia:

For freight vehicle exceeding 7,5 tonnes there is a traffic ban on the DC414 state road from DC8-DC414 intersection to Prapratno junction as well as from Prapratno junction to Komarna junction (Pelješac bridge and its access roads).

According to the Book of regulations for public road transit traffic, freight vehicles heavier than 7,5 tonnes without a trailer/with a trailer longer than 14 m are allowed to use the following roads:

Traffic forecast for 30 June 2026

Drivers are invited to adjust their speed and way of driving to the current weather conditions, to maintain a safety distance between vehicles and to drive with the lights on in rainy and cloudy area, even during the day.

Due to strong winds on the DC8 Adriatic road (below Velebit), certain vehicle categories will be restricted in this area.

Increased traffic is occasionally expected on certain motorway sections. Queues and delays are possible in roadwork areas.

Increased passenger and freight traffic is expected at most border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro. There will be jams and delays during most of the day.

There might be short-term disturbances in ferry navigation, with certain routes in the middle Adriatic area being suspended.

• Take regular breaks to rest.
• Consider using less busy roads when possible.
• Use the ENC (electronic toll collection) system to avoid delays at toll booths.
