Traffic flow and road conditions

Roads are partly wet and due to low temperatures very slippery, especially bridges and viaducts.
Drivers are asked to adjust the way of driving and driving speed to road conditions, to keep the safety distance and not to start the journey without the winter equipment!

Due to winter driving conditions there is a traffic ban on freight vehicles with trailers and all other vehicles have to use the winter equipment on the following roads of Gorski kotar and Lika mountain areas:
  • DC42 at Poljanak;
  • DC218 Bjelopolje-Donji Lapac-Užljebić border crossing;
  • DC429 Selište Drežničko-Prijeboj;
  • ŽC5144 Sveti Juraj-Krasno;
  • ŽC5140-Krasno-Otočac;
  • ŽC5217 Bruvno-Mazin-Dobroselo;
  • LC58060 Brestova Draga-Sunger;
  • LC58061 Mrkopalj-Begovo Razdolje;
  • LC Brod Moravice-Vele Drage-Razdrto;
  • regional and local roads in the county of Ličko-senjska.
Traffic is suspended:
  • on the DC547 Sveti Rok-Mali Alan state road (due to winter driving conditions).
On the DC5 Okučani-Lipik state road traffic is flowing with delays (driving speed limit of 30 km/h).
On the DC47 Trokut-Novska junction (A3)-Hrvatska Dubica-Hrvatska Kostajnica (DC30)-Dvor (DC6) traffic is suspended for vehicles over 7,5 tonnes (driving speed limit of 40 km/h).

Difficulties can occasionally occur in roadwork areas.

Due to road damage on the DC8 Adriatic road at Bistrina bridge near Ston one lane is free only.

Until 31 March the headlights have to be on during the day as well.
15 November-15 April winter equipment is mandatory on Croatian state roads with frequent winter driving conditions.

Traffic restrictions:
A1 Zagreb-Split-Ploče motorway:
  • 31 January and 1 February 1pm-3pm traffic is occasionally suspended for about 15 minutes between Šibenik and Vrpolje Primorsko junctions in both directions;
  • tonight, 31 January, 10pm-5am traffic is suspended between Brinje and Žuta Lokva junctions in both directions, detour: DC23 state road;
  • until 31 March at Konjsko tunnel traffic is occasionally suspended for about 15 minutes in both directions;
  • 31 January-4 February 5am-7am traffic is occasionally suspended for about 15 minutes at Konjsko tunnel and Bisko junction in both directions due to abnormal load;
A3 Bregana-Lipovac motorway:
  • at Jankomir junction (in the length of 700 m) in direction Zagreb one lane is free only;
A7 Rupa-Rijeka-Žuta Lokva motorway:
  • 25 January-2 February traffic is suspended at Diračje junction from direction Križišće towards Opatija/Pula, there is a local detour;
A8/A9 highway in Istria:
  • between Lupoglav and Veprinac junctions temporary traffic signals are in operation - between Lupoglav and Vranja junctions there is a traffic ban on abnormal load wider than 3 m;
  • tonight (31 January) 10pm-6am at Učka tunnel one lane is alternatly free only;
DC3 Karlovac-Duga Resa-Rijeka state road:
  • until 4 March at Švarča towards Duga Resa traffic is proceeding in reduced lanes, in one lane only;
DC70 Omiš-Zakučac state road:
  • 31 January-4 February 8.30am-1.30pm traffic is suspended between Lisičina and Zakučac, detour: ŽC6142-Naklice (DC70)-Tugare-Srinjine-ŽC6142-Strožanac (DC8)-DC8 Strožanac (ŽC6142)-Omiš (DC70);
Pelješac bridge:
  • permitted only for motor vehicles,
  • forbidden for pedestrians, cyclists and motor vehicles, which cannot reach speed higher than 60 km/h.

From 30 December 2021 in the Republic of Slovenia there is a traffic ban on freight vehicles heavier than 7,5 tonnes on Sundays and holidays 8am-10pm (so far 8am-9pm). That is why delays are to expect on the DC6 state road Ribnik-Žakanje-Jurovski Brod border crossing.

Dvor and Vitaljina border crossings are open to passenger and car traffic only.
At Gunja border crossing there is a traffic ban on freight vehicles and buses due to bridge instability

Due to roadwork delays should be expected on the following sections as passengers are transported by buses:
- between Križevci and Koprivnica railway stations on the rail state border-Botovo-Dugo Selo,
- between Novska and Sunja railway stations on the rail Zagreb-Sisak-Novska,
- between Vinkovci and Vukovar railway stations on the rail Vinkovci-Vukovar,
- between Daruvar and Virovitica railway stations on the rail Banova Jaruga-Pčelić,
- between Solin and Split Predgrađe railway stations on the rail Oštarije-Knin-Split,
- between Banova Jaruga – Daruvar – Virovitica as well as Čakovec and Macinec railway stations.

The same goes for the sections, where one railroad is free only:
- between Zagreb Zapadni kolodvor and Zaprešić  railway stations on the rail state border-Savski Marof-Zagreb 8.30am-12.40pm,
- between Sibinj and Oriovac railway stations on the rail Novska-Tovarnik-state border 7.20am-2.55pm,

The trains between Dugo Selo and Novska railway stations are running late.

Driving restrictions for heavy goods vehicles

Traffic restrictions for transit freight vehicles through Croatia:
  • For freight vehicle exceeding 7,5 tonnes there is a traffic ban on the DC414 state road from DC8-DC414 intersection to Prapratno junction as well as from Prapratno junction to Komarna junction (Pelješac bridge and its access roads).
  • According to the Book of regulations for public road transit traffic, freight vehicles heavier than 7,5 tonnes without a trailer/with a trailer longer than 14 m are allowed to use the following roads:

Traffic forecast for 1 February 2023

Roads will be wet and very slippery due to low temperatures. In the interior visibility will be reduced due to fog. Rock and land sliding is possible in mountain areas and on the DC8 Adriatic road.

Traffic will occasionally increase in cities and on their bypass roads. Difficulties can occasionally occur in roadwork areas.

In passenger traffic there can be delays at the border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, especially at: Maljevac, Stara Gradiška, Slavonski Brod and Bajakovo, in freight traffic at Županja, Stara Gradiška, Bajakovo and Tovarnik.
No delays are expected in ferry traffic.
