Traffic flow and road conditions

Roads are partly wet and slippery. Rock sliding is possible.

Due to an accident traffic is closed on the DC1 state road between Podgora Krapinska and Krapina.

Traffic is dense in cities, on their bypass and access roads as well as at some border crossings.

During the day difficulties can occur in roadwork areas.

Drivers are invited to adjust the speed and the way of driving to the road conditions and to keep distance!

1 November-31 March the headlights have to be on during the day as well.

Traffic restrictions:

A1 Zagreb-Ploče-Karamatići motorway:

until 13 March at the Sveti Rok tunnel one lane is free only in each direction (60 km/h);
until 17 March the Janjče rest area is closed in both directions;
until 12 June traffic is suspended between the Bisko and Split junctions in direction Zagreb, detour: Bisko junction (A1 exit)-DC220-ŽC6260-ŽC6145-DC1-Dugopolje/Split; possible A1 entrance at the Dugopolje paytoll in direction Zagreb, impossible A1 entrance at the Bisko junction in direction Zagreb;

A3 Bregana-Lipovac motorway:

until 29 March at the Lučko junction at the Karlovačka viaduct towards Bregana one lane is free only;
until 27 March at 7pm on the A3 Zagreb bypass road between the Kosnica and Buzin junctions 31st-29th km traffic is proceeding in reduced lanes in both directions;
until 29 March between the Lužani and Slavonski Brod zapad junctions 190th-193rd km, 200th-204th km one lane is free only in each direction (80 km/h);
until 30 June at the Zagreb zapad junction from direction Lipovac (A3) towards Zagreb, from direction Bregana (A3) and Macelj (A2) towards Zagreb (Sava bridge-Jankomir) traffic is flowing in one lane only;
from 16 March at 7am until 24 March at 8pm at the Slavonski Brod zapad junction traffic is closed in the exit lane from direction Lipovac as well as in the entrance lane in direction Zagreb, detour: Slavonski Brod istok junction;

A4 Zagreb-Goričan motorway:

until 31 March at the Zagreb istok junction 97th-96th km in direction Goričan one lane is free only - traffic jams should be expected;
until 31 March between the Ludbreg and Čakovec junctions 21st-24th km traffic is proceeding in one lane only in both directions (80 km/h);

A6 Rijeka-Zagreb motorway:

until 15 March between the Čavle and Orehovica junctions in direction Rijeka one lane is free only;
16-20 March 8am-3pm between the Bosiljevo 2 and Vrbovsko junctions traffic is occasionally suspended for about 15 minutes;

A7 Rupa-Rijeka motorway:

until 15 March traffic is suspended at the entrance of the Križišće junction in direction Zagreb and Rupa due to roadwork at the Kuk viaduct, detour: Šmrika junction;
until 15 March between the Križišće junction and Burlica tunnel one lane is free only in each direction;

A8/A9 highway in Istria

due to roadwork between the Učka tunnel and the Matulji junction temporary traffic regulation has been put into place, detour options for personal vehicles: DC500 Vranja state road-Šušnjevica-Vozilići, ŽC5047 Vranja county road-Veprinac-Matulji;
traffic jams are possible between the Učka junction (A7) and Učka tunnel in both directions;
between the Kanfanar and Medaki junctions at the Limska Draga viaduct there is a traffic ban on abnormal load larger than 3,3 m in both directions;

DC1 Solin-Klis highway:

due to roadwork between the Mravince and Klis Grlo tunnels traffic is proceeding in one lane only in each direction until 1 May;

DC44 Livade-Istarske Toplice state road:

until 20 June traffic is suspended on the section Livade-Istarske Toplice;

DC62 Zagvozd-Vrgorac state road:

traffic is suspended until 15 March;

DC75 Novigrad-Poreč state road:

until 20 June traffic is closed on the section Tar-Bašarinka;

DC512 state road:

due to rock sliding traffic is suspended at the Stupica tunnel towards Vrgorac.

8-15 March Istrian Spring Trophies bike race takes place in the area of Umag, Tar, Vabriga, Poreč, Vrsar, Funtana, Novigrad, Motovun and Pazin, as it follows:

- 15 March 11am-2pm on the section: Pazin-Gračišće-most Pićan-Žminj-Svetvinčenat-Brajkovići-Lim-Sv. Lovreč-Vižinada-Ponte Porton-Bužinija-Brtonigla-Umag.

Border crossings

At the border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro a new system of entering/exiting the country (so called Entry/Exit System - EES) is applied. It means that apart from having travel documents biometric passenger data will be collected (four fingerprints and face photo). The law does not refer to EU citizens.

Notifications about waiting time at border crossings are subject to frequent changes. Access to cameras at border crossings is provided on the Croatian Automobile Club website.

Until 31 December 2026 at the Erdut-Bogojevo border crossing there is a traffic ban on freight vehicles exceeding 7,5 tonnes.

The Gunja-Brčko border crossing is closed for all traffic, detour: Županja-Orašje border crossing.

At the Ilok-Bačka Palanka bridge traffic is allowed for vehicles up to 24 tonnes (driving speed limit of 30 km/h).

Starting 3 Junly 2023 international traffic is possible at the Slivno-Drinovačko Brdo border crossing.

Transit freight traffic is suspended at the Tovarnik/Šid border crossing, detour: Bajakovo border crossing.

Traffic is suspended for vehicles whose maximum weight exceeds 7,5 tonnes at the Pribanjci-Vinica border crossing on the DC204 state road.

The Dvor and Vitaljina border crossings are open for pedestrians and passenger traffic only.

The border crossings for the international maritime traffic are: Umag, Pula, Mali Lošinj, Vis, Ubli and Cavtat (Book of Regulations on border crossings of the Republic of Croatia, pubblished at the Narodne novine, 2 January

In ferry traffic there are no difficulties.

Split-Vela Luka-Ubli ferry departs Ubli port on Sundays and on holidays at noon (instead at 1pm), Split port at 5pm (instead at 6pm).

Railway traffic, 13 March 2026

Due to roadwork delays should be expected on the following sections as passengers are transported by buses:

- between the Križevci and Gyekenyes railway stations on the rail state border-Botovo-Dugo Selo,

- between the Varaždin and Koprivnica railway stations on the rail Varaždin-Koprivnica,

- between the Kloštar and Koprivnica, Osijek and Bizovac railway stations on the rail Koprivnica-Dalj,

- between the Novska and Sisak Caprag railway stations on the rail Zagreb-Sisak-Novska,

- between the Donji Kraljevec and Kotoriba railway stations on the rail Čakovec-Kotoriba-state border,

- between the Čakovec and Središče railway stations on the rail state border-Čakovec,

- between the Kanfanar and Pula railway stations on the rail state border-Buzet-Pula,

- between the Ogulin and Moravice railway stations on the rail Zagreb-Rijeka,

- between the Banova Jaruga and Virovitica railway stations,

Driving restrictions for heavy goods vehicles

Summer restrictions on freight vehicles

15 June-15 September there are traffic restrictions on freight vehicles heavier than 7,5 tonnes on Saturdays 4am-2pm, on Sundays noon-11pm and on holidays 3pm-11pm on the following roads:

- DC8-DC40 Bakar junction-Zadar-Split-Klek border crossing-Zaton Doli border crossing-Dubrovnik-Karasovići border crossing (except on the part DC27-Šibenik bridge-Šibenik-DC58, Bilice roundabout at Solin-Stobreč);

- DC9-Metković-Opuzen-DC8;

- DC21 Kaštel border crossing-Buje-Kanfanar junction (except on the part DC21 Kanfanar-Pula-DC66);

- DC23 Žuta Lokva-Senj;

- DC39-A1-Šestanovac roundabout-DC8-Dupci;

- DC66 Pula junction (A9)-Raša-Opatija-DC8;

- DC200 Buje (DC21)-Plovanija border crossing;

- DC300 Buje (DC21)-Umag;

- Ž5002 Novigrad-Tar-Poreč-Vrsar (DC21);

- Split ferry port;

- Zadar ferry port.

Traffic restrictions for transit freight vehicles through Croatia:

For freight vehicle exceeding 7,5 tonnes there is a traffic ban on the DC414 state road from DC8-DC414 intersection to Prapratno junction as well as from Prapratno junction to Komarna junction (Pelješac bridge and its access roads).

According to the Book of regulations for public road transit traffic, freight vehicles heavier than 7,5 tonnes without a trailer/with a trailer longer than 14 m are allowed to use the following roads:

Traffic forecast for 15 March 2026

Due to rainshowers roads will be partly wet and slippery.

Traffic will be dense in cities and on their bypass roads as well as on some motorway sections, particularly in the morning and afternoon.

Difficulties can occur in roadwork areas - on the A3 Zagreb bypass road, in Istria on the A8 highway between the Učka junction and Učka tunnel, on the DC1 Solin-Klis highway.

At the border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro there can be delays in passenger and freight traffic.

In ferry traffic difficulties are expected due to wind.

Drivers are invited to adjust the speed and the way of driving to the road conditions and to keep distance!
